Info Update # 17, Monday 6th September 2010
Latest News Featured Article Casting Board Film Competitions Select State

< /td>

Hi Guys

I start this newsletter in a very cranky mood
(unsual for me I know!) but some of you have been VERY VERY NAUGHTY!!!!!

Last week we had a casting notice up on the board for a Music Video commercial.
Now I know it was fantastic and it was going to be heaps of fun AND of course everyone wants to be part of it ..... BUT ( in huge capitals with major empahasis on the BUT!!!!)

YOU MUST FOLLOW THE PROCESS - OF APPLYING TO THE CASTING DIRECTOR!

NOT THE marketing department of the client who is organising the campaign.

I had a call from the Casting Director who is very good to us here at Quiet On Set and she asked me to take the notice down as she had received a very distressed call from the company saying that they had all these actors ringing them. What the hell is going on here people.

We get the notice in - the info on how to apply is listed on the notice board and then you follow the directions on how to apply.

You are actors - YOU NEED TO FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS. If you are not members of Quiet on Set, then guess what - you can't apply!!

I am so TOTALLY ticked off with all of you who went running around and pestered the poor company who is doing the campaign. So TOTALLY NOT COOL PEOPLE!!!!!

This kind of behaviour from those wannabe's who have no idea on how the acting process works makes it really hard, for those legitimate and dedicated Quiet On Set actors , who do understand how the industry and works and work professionally at their acting careers.

For those of you who are new to the QOS site or the industry, here is a brief outline of how a TVC campaign works.

The comany with the product contacts an advertising agency.
The advertising agency comes up with a campaign.
They then contact a production company to make the commercial.
The production company then engages a casting director to recruit the talent.
The director and the agency (and sometimes the company) will then select the talent after looking at all the auditions on tape.
A shooting date is set and the filming process happens.

You can see that the original company is so far away from the stages of auditioning talent that it would be so annoying for them to have to take massive amounts of calls re the auditions. They would have no idea about this - that is what they employ the production company for!!!!!!!

In an actors world - THE CASTING DIRECTOR is YOUR GOD!! There are ways you can short cut the process and get access to the casting directors - again - ALL THIS INFO IS LISTED IN the Fast Track Your Career Pack - again - only $14.95. There is absolutely NO REASON that every single QOS reader should not have read these info packs!

If you want more info about how the process works - then pick up a copy of Everything You Need to Know For Actors at our bookstore. It is only $14.95 for goodness sake!!

So, people, I beg you!!
Please do not ring the companies that are running the campaign, they do not have anything to do with the audition process.

For those of you who have been with QOS for a long time, I know you share my pain and embarrassment when the casting director rings me to give me a blast about what the hell is going on, why are QOS people ringing the client!. You also know how hard it is to get the trust of casting directors to give us this info. We have spent 8 years building up our reputation as well trained in the processes of the industry - PLEASE - ALL YOU NEWBIES, calm down, learn how the industry works and follow the process!

Interestingly, I didn't even put the name of the client in the info I provided, random actors just went ringing around to find out how they could short cut the process.

Very UNCOOL people and this type of behaviour really makes you (AND ALL OF US HERE AT QOS might I add!!) look like a bunch of amateurs.

Sorry 'bout the blast and please - my apologies to all those actors that do the right thing. This blast is only for those actors who rang the Cancer Council regarding these auditions. Again - it was SO NOT COOL!

Have a great week.

Cheers
Lee

(Tues, Wed, Thurs 6.30pm - 9.30pm)

You asked and we delivered! - A longer more intense version in the film studio! This course is designed for emerging and professional actors seeking to move from stage to screen. Screen acting requires differing techniques and knowledge, many of the physical and vocal tools of the actor need to be modified and reinterpreted for the screen. Technical and physical limitations become critical.

Join Ian and other actors for three nights in the film studio to gain invaluable experience in delivering exceptional performances for screen.
