Quiet On Set Newsletter 02 2nd February 2011
Latest NewsFeatured ArticleCasting BoardFilm CompetitionsSelect State

Hi Guys

Well to any of you readers who work for Telstra - cover your ears..... "Bloody Telstra!!!'.

There - that feels better.
Last month, Telstra did a server update which means that they move the storage of QOS to
another system. Called a MIGRATION!. Well after they do that - down goes my site and I
share the frustration of all of you who try to add info, or subscribe and get a crashed/error
message.

Gosh it is so frustrating, and they won't call you, you just get these emails from the big
wide yonder of the nether nether from a help desk somewhere in cyber space. Drives me
completely and totally nuts with frustration so bear with me. Hopefully will be sorted soon.

Here is an updated newsletter that I have been able to get out - I THINK!!. Lots of casting
notices on the board, that have been updating, despite the error message saying they
aren't. Work that one out.

How are all the new year plans going for your acting careers. I have been doing a lot of
filming lately, doing some TVC's and promo's for YouTube etc.
I can't tell you the importance of getting the right talent. If the person is just not right for
the job or experienced enough, it can take all day to film. If the casting is right and you
get an experienced actor, the job is easy and the editing is easy. Little technical things like
allowing a breathing space from action and holding the gaze, smile, look until you hear
CUT!. An inexperienced actor looks away as soon as they have delivered their lines etc, or
moves to much and then asks " How was that?" Totally not on.

Guys if you want a career as an actor - you MUST MUST MUST do a basic level of training
to learn how to work towards camera!.

Plenty of great courses around but the first place you can start is to pick up a copy of one
of our HOW TO Ezines from the book store - I have been getting orders through so that
section of the site MUST be working lol!!!
At only $14.95 each - a very very cheap way to start.

Have a great week.

QuietOnSet Newsletter - 14 January 2011

QOS Newsletter-01 - 14th January 2011
Latest NewsFeatured ArticleCasting BoardFilm CompetitionsSelect State

Hi Guys

Business has leapt into 2011 and I see that they
are making a movie of the book The Slap.
Read it - interesting story and I love the casting.

Acting is all about telling the story and I love the
casting process. You have a character in mind
and you can audition 300 brunettes in the age of
20-25yrs and only a handful will jump out at
you - for whatever reason - often
unexplainable. Can you imagine Julia Roberts
not playing Erin Brockavitch, Meg Ryan not
being Sally in When Harry Met Sally etc. There
are plenty of great actors but one just is the
character.

I was doing some filming for a friend this week
and it was an infomercial type thing he wanted
to put on YouTube. It was his gig but he sure
could have used a presenter. You see the
commercials where the owner of the business
does his own ads? Really bad. Do not under
estimate the importance of the casting process
and make sure you have your character choices
ready when you get the opportunity to audition.

Have a great week.

What's On

Darlinghurst Theatre Company
Hello friends,

Happy New Year! We're back in full swing at the
theatre and delighted to have Open For
Inspection back on our stage throughout
January and February. We can't help but sing
along to their catchy songs as we hear them
rehearsing throughout the day... We'll have to
fight the urge to become part of the chorus
when we're treated to the full show, which
previews from this Thursday. Get in quick and
book tickets - we guarantee you'll be humming
along too.

Coming up at the end of February is a hilarious
double bill by Steven Dawson, Jane Austen's
Guide to Pornography + Gorgeous Bastard! As
part of the Mardi Gras Festival, this dirty double
act is receiving plenty of attention, promising
sex without sensibility and perversion without
prejudice! Join the debauchery and book tickets
early.

Be sure to check out the rest of our 2011
Season. We have a whole year of diverse and
scintillating theatre experiences ahead.

We look forward to seeing you at the theatre
very soon!

Cheers, Edwina

OPEN FOR INSPECTION THE REAL ESTATE
MUSICAL!
Music and Lyrics by Lucy Egger | Script by Tim
Bosanquet

13 January - 13 February
Tickets $27-$37

Enter a world of black SUV's, dummy bidders
and blue-haired harridans as two ruthless, rival
agencies battle for buyers during a property
slump.

Set in the cutthroat world of Sydney real estate,
Open for Inspection is a wickedly black, new
musical comedy. After a short sell-out season at
Darlinghurst Theatre Company in 2010, the
musical about a real estate agent who becomes
a serial killer returns to the stage with 10%
more hair gel.

With wonderfully catchy songs by Lucy Egger
and an all singing, all dancing cast, this hilarious
musical is sure to bring the house down this
summer. If you only see one musical about real
estate this year - make sure this is it.

FLY-ON-THE-WALL THEATRE
Enormously popular US/Australian actress and
singer, JANE BADLER has joined MARCUS
GRAHAM and ANTON ENUS as one of the 4PLAY:
THE CHAPEL MIDSUMMA READINGS hosts. Jane
has just arrived back home from Canada after
spending some months reprising her role as
'Diana' in the sci-fi series 'V'.

She will host the first reading this Saturday, 15
January of young playwright's SAM SHORE'S
acclaimed NZ play 'THE IDEA OF AMERICA'.
Directed by LUCIEN SAVRON

Jude, a failed actress battling dementia, seems
to think she's a lot more famous than she
actually is. Between playing mother and battling
with her illness, she escapes into a world of
sequins, air-kisses and grand sweeping
entrances. Amongst all this her conservative
and bigoted daughter, Holly, returns to the fold.
Youngest Maureen, and secretive older brother
Sean, greet her warily. As things turn from bad
to worse the comically dysfunctional siblings
must unite in a common cause. Lies are
exposed, old wounds reopened and each must
struggle with their own off beat neuroses. The
universal story of how a modern family copes
with the loss of a parent, interweaves with the
fantastical world of a stage diva gone mad.

Tickets can be purchased at the box office prior
to the reading.
