Info Update # 14 Wednesday 6th May 2009
Latest News Featured Article Casting Board Film Competitions Select State

Hi Guys

Did you see the Logies on Sunday?
Congrats to the Packed to The Rafters team.

I love watching all the stars come together.
I think that the industry has been so tough that the "scoffing" that used to happen over the Logies is now over. Both the actors and the television execs realise and appreciate the power and opinion of the audience - their jobs depend on it.

So well done to all those that won, lost and played the game - that is television.

There are some good audition notices on the board. Don't be shy, these jobs are the way to practice and get over those nerves.

On the note of audition notices, interestingly, I got an email the other day saying: "Leanne, 39 new casting calls which match you!" Well I find that hard to believe but I had a look and of course:
Those auditions would match me......IF I LIVED IN UK, USA or other states of Australia, that I DON'T LIVE IN !!!

I constantly have producers contact me about STAR NOW sending them emails, to get information that is exclusively listed in QOS. This means that someone from STAR NOW is a QOS member for the purpose of - I can only assume, copying out members info and getting access to the producers.

At nearly $200 a year for membership, and (you can never call them to speak with them as they don't have an office in Aus - I have tried), StarNow is doing the lowest of low, by ripping off the limited number of work that is actually there. And since you can't access or contact the producers on their listings, I would suggest that maybe the STAR NOW staff are using there imagination to create loads of so called "work". The more listings they have, the more unsuspecting actors get excited and they hand over their cash.

These sorts of sites are in business to make money out of desperate actors and people who have no idea how the industry works.

Don't be desperate - that is a sure fire way to get ripped off. (Been there done that!)
And don't be so keen to hand over your cash.

For just $89 a year, we offer:
**Access to the auditions and the actual contacts - so you know they are legit.
**A FREE Copy of the How to Act/QOS DVD.
13 interviews with Australian professionals who actually work in the industry.
This product alone is the best money spent by beginner actors!!!
** Free Ezine booklets on how to become an actor and how to fast track you career.
Everything I can think off to answer all those questions that come through every day is in these 2 booklets.
Once again, information from experienced Australian Industry Professionals!!
** Headshot and cv assessment.
** Your own acting website and NO HOSTING FEES.
** You can email me questions and if it can't be answered over the phone, I will call you back.
** We also offer discounts for each year you are a member on renewal, and we do have actors who have been members with us since 2002 when we first started.

$1850 worth of stuff for just the usual membership of $7.50 per week ($89.95)

This PROMO finishes at the end of this week.

There has been a heap of people who have taken up this option - PUT in PROMO 2 in when you subscribe.

I am still getting back to everyone, but those who have read the info and watched the DVD are so far ahead of the rest!

Don't miss out.
The PROMO 2 Offer ends this Friday.

Have a great one

Lee

2009 Gold Coast Film Fantastic - call for Qld features looking for distributors
QLD Filmmakers Get Fantastic Champion

In November Gold Coasters will be able to experience and participate in a brand new film program at the 2009 Gold Coast Film Fantastic which will have a significant and direct effect on local filmmakers.

Local Showcase: Films Made in Queensland will be a program of up to five feature films produced in Queensland which are currently seeking local and/or foreign sales or distribution deals. The initiative is designed to foster and promote Queensland filmmaking talent and is presented by Bond University.

Michael Sergi, Director of Film and Television Bond University, says, "Bond University is excited to be partnering with GCFF in presenting this initiative that will assist local filmmakers reach international audiences with their films."

Australian industry executives, specifically acquisition executives and sales agents, will be invited to participate in the Local Showcase and asked to view the films and take meetings with the filmmakers after the screenings. Michael Favelle, Managing Director of Odin's Eye Entertainment, has already confirmed his involvement with the project.

Casey Marshall Siemer the new Festival Director of the Gold Coast Film Fantastic says "I have been impressed by the drive demonstrated by Queensland independent filmmakers determined to get their stories on screen. There are many independent filmmakers based right here on the Gold Coast who have features in various stages of production."

"I'm very proud of the Local Showcase initiative. It will celebrate talented filmmakers and assist them to make the necessary industry connections required to monetize their film. Hopefully it also keeps them in Queensland to make their next film. If distribution deals come out of the program I will be thrilled because the GCFF will then be actively spurring and facilitating the local industry." Casey Marshall Siemer.

Richard Featherstone of De Vere Lawyers and GCFF Chairperson says "Our recent Festivals have shown that there is a huge amount of talent living here in Queensland, and in particular on the Gold Coast. This talent needs support and assistance and the Local Showcase will do that and give audiences unprecedented access to the new creative minds of Queensland's screen culture. I'm confident that the films shown in this part of the Festival will be a major highlight of the program."

The Local Showcase program is funded by the Regional Arts Development Fund, and is presented by Bond University. The Regional Arts Development Fund is a Queensland Government and Gold Coast City Council partnership to support local arts and culture.

Filmmakers interested in participating in the Local Showcase are asked to submit their full length feature films for consideration by 1 July 2009. For submission details please email admin@filmfantastic.com to express your interest and to request an application form.

Sydney Shakespeare Festival winter showcase: The Merchant of Venice
Warm up this winter with Sydney Shakespeare Festival's winter showcase: The Merchant of Venice. Bonds of family, friendship, religion and money are put to the test when a bride is won with an enemy's money and the debt must be repaid. Shakespeare's unsettling comedy kicks off at Newtown Theatre, centrally located in the heart of Sydney's inner west, on May 26 for three weeks only.

Performances are at 8pm Tuesday to Friday and 2pm and 8pm Saturdays until June 13. For all the details visit:
www.sydneyshakespearefestival.com.au

Wealthy heiress Portia sets her suitors a challenge. The winner takes her hand and her money, while the losers sacrifice everything. In Venice, city of consumption, speculation and debt, Bassanio borrows money from Antonio to finance his attempt at the challenge. Antonio, in turn, takes out a loan from moneylender Shylock and if he cannot repay the debt, Shylock will take his bond: a pound of Antonio's flesh. In some of Shakespeare's most electrifying scenes, competing claims of tolerance, prejudice, justice and mercy are played out. In the character of Shylock, Shakespeare created one of the most unforgettable outsiders in all theatre.

Directed by artistic director and co-founder Julie Baz, The Merchant of Venice features Sydney Shakespeare Festival regulars Richard Hilliar, David Jeffrey, Roger Adam Smith, Milly Stilinovic and Nicole Wineberg, along with newcomers Walter Davis-Hart, Amanda Laing and Jacob Thomas.

Sydney Shakespeare Festival is "a precious addition to the scant presence of Shakespeare in Sydney" (Australian Stage). In its second year, and venturing indoors for the first time, the festival is fast becoming a permanent fixture on Sydney's social calendar. "Shakespeare's plays have captured the imagination of millions of people throughout the world for over 400 years and are as exciting and provocative now as the day they were written," said Baz.

Sydney Shakespeare Festival, in association with Newtown Theatre, presents:
