QuietOnSet Newsletter - 15 August 2011

Info Update # 22 15th August 2011

Hi Guys

Hope you are having a busy pro-active acting
week. Thank you to everyone who writes to
me. Most people are surprised that we are
actually here, real people, and not an automatic
email service. I wanted to pass on some
feedback from this week, it is great to know that
we are able to help people along.
----------------

Hi Lee
I just read "So you want to be an actor". It was
good to read about what your web site is all
about, getting started, finding agents an all the
other stuff. I was also very good to read Matt
Normans story, he sounds like an amazing
bloke.

I want to be an actor so I walked into an agent's
office in Broadbeach about September/October
last year and signed up as an extra (I didn't
know there was extras and actors, I thought it
was the same thing). I got my first job about a
week ago. It was a crowd scene of 200 extras.
It is not all the agents fault that I have not got
work as since I joined I have spent some time
working in NZ (not acting), but there is a lot of
stuff the agent could have made me aware of,
but didn't.

He told me that I shouldn't just drop in to his
office unannounced and that I should make an
appointment to see him or his assistant every 3
months or so. This sounds like a long time
between drinks to me. After reading Mats story
I must say that the way he does it is how I
imagined it to be.

I think I will be visiting your site regularly as I
found it to be very informative.

Thanks for reading this email
Regards
Moz
--------------------------------

Yes, Actor Matt Normans story is amazing and
out there. You can see his story on the QOS
DVD series. He also has a tutorial in the
members area. Matt was one of our first
interviews ever, he is an actor that supports his
family and of course, now branches out into
producing.
---------------------------------

Congratulation to Katie Johnson and Peter
Flaherty. Both got paid TVC work through QOS
and have just had roll overs on their TVC's.
This means that they get paid again for another
year. No work, no auditions, just another pay
cheque!!

----------------------------------

Cheers
Lee

Video Journalism Workshop at Open Channel
This unique course equips journalists and
filmmakers with the necessary skills to tell
compelling, timely stories as a single person
crew. Working as a single person crew can be
the most effective way to capture unfolding
stories. It is also one of the most demanding
and failure-prone ways to work.

This course focuses entirely on `hard`, short,
reporter-driven stories, rather than longitudinal
or character-driven documentary. With cross-
media skills in increasing demand in Australia
and abroad, this is an unusual opportunity to be
guided by an esteemed professional to make
sound technical, creative and ethical decisions in
the field, on your own.

Please bring your own portable pen drive so you
can save your project and take it home.

You will learn how to:

* Identify appropriate stories
* Conduct research and plan a shoot
* Use camera, sound, and light
* Shoot sequences, cutaways and general vision
* Set up and shoot interviews, including noddies
* Use Final Cut Pro (editing software)
* Write and record voice-over
