Info Update # 28 Friday 7th November 2008
Latest News Featured Article Casting Board Film Competitions Select State

Hi Guys

It has been a busy week with all the PAID Presenter Auditions we have been managing. Well done to those that were submitted, we got some really professional E-Pitches through and it was a pleasure to open the email submissions - take a quick look, see that they were perfect and forward them on to the advertising agency.
Congratulations, those who work and train in the Presenter area, really have to go the extra mile to stand out from the crowd. Well done everyone.

I got some "interesting" feedback this week, that E-pitching is "too hard". The thought from this young actor was: that :
"I just want to click on an automated reply email that says (generally), here is me, count me in for an audition".
No CV's, no headshots no reasons why you are suited to the role ( above the other 300 that apply!)

Well my friends, that is just sheer lazyness and I can tell you that those emails will not be submitted or opened at the other end by the casting people.

I can tell you that those actors who know how the system works and they know how to e-pitch will get the auditions everytime.
Casting Directors want to solve the problem of "finding people" as quickly as possible and they are not going to open files and "look you up". Open an email, that doesn't have anything about you or why you should stand out amongst the crowd.
Don't be lazy, learn how to e-pitch, we provide samples for you to copy and once you have one set up, you just resend the same one, changing the detail to be relevant for each individual casting.
That is the beauty of technology, you don't have to redo everything, you just resend the same email/E-pitch Info.
Phew!

If you want to know how to E-Pitch, just click on and purchase the FAST TRACK PACK from the Bookstore or from our Home Page. The samples are there.

ALSO - ACTORS BEWARE!!!
If you are paying for audition information that is on a monthly deduction and the company is not Australian based, your monthly fee will be highly effected by the drop in the Aussie Dollar.
For example Starnow says that their monthly subscription is $9.99 US. At the current rate, that converts to approx $16.50 per month give or take a few cents depending on bank fees and the daily exchange rate.
That means that you are paying nearly $200 (TWO HUNDRED) dollars a year for subscription.

Are you aware, if you are a member of Starnow, you are paying MORE THAN DOUBLE the yearly subscription to Quiet On Set AND, you don't even get any contacts to follow up if you have questions ( or to check if the audition notice is valid or not.)

ARE THE ALARM BELLS RINGING YET!!!

READER FEEDBACK:

Dear Lee,
Just had to write and tell you that your tutorials were so helpful. I used them as part of my preparation. I went for an audition today and got the part,
I must also say that I was introduced to Quite on Set by an American actor friend of mine. Subscribing has been one of the best things I have done. I will be a loyal subscriber for years to come,
Thank-you
Cheryl Gauntlett

I am currently doing the TAFTA Screentests up at the Gold Coast, we had a wonderful session last week with Neighbours Casting Director Jan Russ. This week we will work with Dave Newman. Well done all the Gold Coast actors surviving the heat last week and doing some great scenes. Can't wait till tomorrow.

Plenty of great audition notices on the board, have a great weekend.

Newtown Theatre -Call for Submissions: 2009
Newtown Theatre (producers of Short + Sweet) is calling for submissions from Australian theatre makers wishing to stage seasons in 2009.

We have slots available April, May and June as well as later on in the year. The usual booking is 4 weeks but we are more than happy to consider shorter, or even longer, seasons depending on the individual project.

The venue is centrally located on the corner of King & Bray Streets, Newtown, 200 metres north of St Peters Station with free parking for over 200 cars at the Sydney Park Brickworks only 300 metres away. In recent months the company has undertaken further refurbishment of the venue which features a large foyer area and licensed bar. Recent technical upgrades include: three phase power, air conditioning, new single seating to replace the benches, renovated dressing rooms, new (paintable) stage area (50 sq metres).

Expert technical advice is available for all productions. Newtown, and the inner west, is home to a large population of theatre goers. In-house marketing and ticketing support can be supplied to all companies.

In the first instance please submit an expression of interest to our General Manager, Malcolm Frawley via
malcolm@shortandsweet.org

Your expression of interest should include an overview of the work you are intending to stage (synopsis of play + artistic vision) together with brief biographies of key personnel - Director, Writer, Cast (if known) and other Creative Team members. A copy of the play is not necessary at this point. While no restrictions are placed on the type of works submitted we encourage home-grown theatre where possible or innovative productions of more traditional or international plays.

The deadline for this round of submissions is Monday 22nd December.

THE GOD BOTHERERS
By Richard Bean

A hilarious comedy about what happens when do-gooding goes bad!

"THE GOD BOTHERERS is seriously hilarious and hilariously serious."- The Sunday Times

Laura, a dizzy 24 year old from Bracknell is out to save the world. She trades her Cosmo for The Idiots Guide to the Koran and sets off on the adventure of a lifetime, volunteering as an aid worker in the far flung, third world country of Tambia.

On arrival, Laura meets Keith a jaded, weary aid worker who has visited way too many problem countries and left behind him a string of failed marriages and failed causes.

Tambia's problems are rampant and Laura can't solve them all, the water is scarce, the electricity only intermittently works and AK-47s are the hottest accessory, but hey, at least the locals now have mobile phones.

Outrageously funny and wickedly satirical, this romp through fictional Tambia will keep you laughing and thinking...
