| | | Hi Guys
Well we had heaps of paid work on the board last week and didn't that cause some chaos.
The sickly actors smell of "desperation" came wafting through my computer, from those;
-who have no idea what they are doing; -who have no idea on how to find the information; -and who are running around in cyberspace and on the phone, annoying a lot of people who aren't even involved with the auditions!
Guys/readers/newbies - what are you doing???? Learn the process, get it right and stop wasting yours and everyone elses time!
Get this: I had a call from an Indianna Evans's Talent Agent, saying that Quiet On Set readers were contacting her!! Why people? WHY? Why would you contact Indanna's Talent Agent. Indianna is just one of many actors she is representing. She is not doing the auditions or even putting Indianna forward, for goodness sake!!!! The Casting Director is running the auditions, and we are submitting people to the Casting Director, in this case, the CD who is on the H20 series. The Casting Director uses online systems such as At2 or Showcast to send the audition briefs out the the Talent Agents and then the Talent Agents submit actors back. If you have an agent, you should call them about such roles. If you don't have an agent, we can refer you as a one off - if you fit the brief and that is not only about the look. It is also about experience and training.
The reactions to the paid work this week, is a classic example of how badly actors behave. The desperation, of some people, is THE MAIN REASON WHY, audition information is so highly protected and inaccessible.
Also, I keep getting enquiries from people saying how can I get an audition. If you have to ask the question, you don't have enough experience, you have obviously not done any training and you have not read the basic info that we provide for you. READ THE INFORMATION THAT WE PROVIDE IN THE NEWSLETTER EVERY WEEK:
How To Apply for an Audition All the contact details are in the members area. If you are not a member, you need to SUBSCRIBE. Just click on the SUBSCRIBE tab at the home page and follow the prompts as you scroll down.
The above info is listed at the top of the casting board every week!! So why would you email me for more info.
You need to be a member folks. We give you all the info and what you need to do in the members area. Serious actors become members of QOS. Serious actors train, practice, work hard to get a good agent and learn how to audition. I only give the info out to those who are serious about their commitment to acting.
Acting is not a hobby, if it is, that is fine, you can go and do community theatre. Acting is just like any other career, it requires a set of skills that you have to learn, it requires on set experience, and there are processes in place for accessing information, and getting work.
I beg you, (god, I am begging now, you can see how desperate I am for you guys to get it)....
READ THE INFORMATION WE PROVIDE FOR YOU. We don't just do it for the fun of it, YOU REALLY NEED TO KNOW THIS STUFF!
We have:
Info for beginner Actors Info for Kids/Teens. Fast Track Info.
We have the QOS DVD series that is info from those who are working in the industry. Casting Directors, Talent Agents, successful actors.
We run Actors Info Days and bring along the TOP professionals in the industry.
DO NOT send me an email that says:
"Hi Lee, I so wannabe an actor and be famous. I just want to be on Home & Away or Neighbours and I know that I can be real good if you could just given me a chance. FROM: chooklegs_tatoogirl @hotmail.com Maroochydore."
I will ignore the tragically unprofessional email address but... For starters, all my regular readers would know that Home & Away is filmed in Sydney and Neighbours is filmed in Melbourne. If you live in Maroochydore, you have buckleys chance of getting a small role on one of these shows. All my regular readers would also know who the casting directors are as we list those in the members area under "Whats On- In Production" and by now, all of my regular readers and the members will be laughing their heads off at these desperate people. Seriously guys, these people send me these emails!
Now tragically I still get emails from members with a CV and a note: Hi Lee, I want to apply for Bella, and their name.
THIS is a little disappointing as I constantly go on about the way to E-Pitch. And I have samples in the members area, so please guys, I will "bin" every application that doesn't have the standard E-Pitch info. I want your name, your contact details, your agent, your height, your eye colour, your age, your city you live in and I want to see your headshot as soon as I open that email. Don't just accept that it is all there on your cv, I don't even open the cv if your headshot doesn't match the brief. (I had a female actor send me a application for the Indonesian Soldier role - have you ever seen a female Indonesian Soldier!)
So please all my members, there are so many new guys I know, but please, please, please (there I go, begging again), read the hundreds of pages in the tutorials in the members area, particularly the E-PITCH one.
Well, that is my blast for the week. (And I do feel better).
TIP OF THE WEEK: How to avoid a blast from Lee:
1. If you are a beginner and not a member, read the info packs we have available for you. 1a. If you are a member, read the Tutorials in the members area and learn how to E-Pitch, you will be doing it weekly.
2. Email me if you have read the info and then have questions. I will be happy to point you in the right direction for where you live.
3. Do some courses.
4. Do as many short films as you can for experience.
5. THEN Get an agent.
6. Start going for Paid Work Auditions
7. Start landing Paid Work Auditions.
8. Send me an email about how happy you are :)
Cheers
Lee

This workshop is about the choices and alternatives that might exist in any screentest scene. Is there an ultimate, perfect choice? If so, should you place all your eggs in that basket or should you thoroughly explore all the other possibilities that might exist and if so, just how thoroughly? How do you find those other alternatives? How do you look for them. What to look for? How far removed is the final performance from the screentest? How to prepare completely without locking yourself down to only one single aspect and how not to get confused. What does the Casting Director want and what do they look for. The things they won't tell you.
Do you know how to let the camera work for you? How to play across the lens to maximise your visual impact?
How to break down a scene quickly, simply and efficiently. Are you listening to the other actor or merely listening for your cue? Can you really tell the difference? Is your approach still too theatrical? What does that actually mean? How to deal with it. All these things will be covered with in the workshop.
