Courses

Acting for Camera with Anthony Hays and Kirsty McGregor
Anthony Hayes (The Boys, Rabbit Proof Fence, Look Both Ways.... actually every second Australian film made in the last 10 years) has returned from London for a short while and is going to be touring Australia and New Zealand
conducting acting for camera classes.

The classes consist of a two day course, and will be restricted to only 16 people per class.

CITIES COVERED:
MELBOURNE
SYDNEY
ADELAIDE
PERTH
CANBERRA
AUCKLAND
BRISBANE

The courses will focus on preparing an audition for camera and will also have a self testing component, enabling people around the country to send in effective auditions to better their chances of being cast remotely.

I have agreed to join Tony as I love the format:
DAY ONE will be learning how to effectively prepare an audition. TWO teachers will conduct the class (Anthony Hayes and another leading industry actor or director, to be confirmed per city).

Day one, your teachers will take you from script to audition. Working intensely with each teacher for half a day, you will learn how to interpret a scene, build a character and how to walk into an audition room being fully prepared and with absolute confidence. Your teachers have experience as actors AND directors, so know the best ways to calm down those audition nerves and also can guide you on what a director is looking for. By the end of the day you will take away a scene to prepare on your day ʻoffʼ, using the techniques you have learned on day one. You will then ʻauditionʼ with Kirsty McGregor (me!) on day two of the course.

DAY TWO. 10am - 5pm
At the beginning of day two, Kirsty McGregor will conduct a seminar for approx 1 hour, during which time you will have the opportunity to grill her with any questions about the casting process. You will then be taken through the
audition process during which you will perform your scene prepared on your day off. Kirsty will offer feedback and direction and you will do the scene once, perhaps twice more (depending on how well you nail it!). The class will all be present during the audition process as we find you will learn as much from watching other people audition as you do during your time in front of the camera.

SELF TESTING
Kirsty will also talk to you about how to prepare and audition when you do not have the opportunity to be in the room with the casting director - whether it be because you have not been invited OR because you are interstate or
overseas.

At the end of the day, there will be a half hour re-cap, during which you can ask any still-lingering questions.

If you feel you know anyone who might be interested please direct them to Anthony's website:

On Thursday April 22nd at 7:00PM.

The doors of the Sun Theatre, Yarraville, will open. As you enter the cinema from Ballarat Street, a beautiful 1930's art-deco design will smile at you, and sit you down in front of a screen.

At 7:20PM, a dedicated, die hard Director will stand between you and the screen and introduce a film. As he walks away, at 7:30PM, you'll experience something that was created with the guts, sweat and heart of more than 100 human beings.

It's reunion time, people. Run to the nearest bell tower and start ringing. 'Imitating Charlie' has come home.

A silent film, Imitating Charlie redefines the meaning of viewing; creating an experience that haunts the soul and stretches our senses to bliss. 'Imitating Charlie' centres around young Julian Bartel, after he's lost the ability to hear, and follows his journey through a world turned upside down.

How can Julian learn to live without hearing in this world, when he's only ever listened with his ears?

With enough seats to sell out fast, it's time to book. Email imitatingcharlie@gmail.com with your Name, Number, and how many Tickets you'd like. Tickets are $8.

Accidents Happen + Q&A with Geena Davis - 17 Apr

Youngest son Billy has been a witness to a series of tragic accidents, including one that fractured his whole family. Always the good boy, Billy takes up with the neighbourhood troublemaker in acts of delicious delinquency in a world already spinning out of control. The ensuing collision of guilt, truth and self-discovery may be just what his family needs to move on.

Please join us for a post film discussion with Oscar winner and star of ACCIDENTS HAPPEN Geena Davis.
