Plenty of great courses happening and castings.
The casting process is full on and you need to be actor ready.
Actors needs the basic tools of a great headshot, an email address that is identifiable to them. Example, hottestlegsonmars@hotmail.com DOES NOT WORK. However leedonehue@hotmail.com DOES WORK. You need to have your name in your email address for your acting work.
On the note of photo's try to have a few to chose from and use the appropriate one for the job you are submitting to.
A casual shot, a shot of you in a suit, a shot of you looking funny ( if you do), a shot of you looking as the bad guy. Casting is VERY look specific so try to match your headshots with the types of character you look like.
If you have dreadlocks and a beard, you most likely won't be cast as a bank manager or financial planner, so you probably won't need suit shots, however, you could be druggie guy - sick looking, snowboarder guy - healthy, back packer - smelly (lol), rock concert goer - grungy. So you see there are so many different characters within the look of a person with dreadlocks.
For women, does your face have empathy, - nurses, mums, shoppers, financial companies.
Are you younger rock chick, or are you bridesmaid - which is generally fresh faced. Are you friendly like a shop assistant, bank teller.
These are the types of characters we get asked to submit so make sure you have a selection of headshots that fit your look and the characters you would represent.
There are some great castings on the board - increase your chances of landing the gig by doing a good submission or E-Pitch. If you don't know how to e-pitch, pick up a copy of Fast Track Your Career - from our bookstore, there are samples there. It is an ezine and we can shoot it out to you today.

The ADG is thrilled to be presenting a two-part event with esteemed director Jane Campion. This includes a seminar / screening of the documentary, Working with Jane followed by Q & A with director Paolo Morabito & Jane Campion. This will be followed by an informal masterclass with Jane Campion for selected ADG members.
Jane Campion has won multiple awards including the Short Film Palme d'Or for Peel. "The root of the decline in this country (U.S.) started ten years ago with the emergence of "quick fix" acting workshops, or casting workshops, from unqualified teachers, in lieu of serious training. As a result of this, ten years later, the Americans, who seemed to have opted for this quick fix course, now cannot compete on an international market, I believe it is a direct result of the actors focus on what is essential for a sustained career. You hear all the time on how to get ahead in Hollywood by unemployed actors, the conversation does not usually revolve around training.
His New York stage credits include 'Come Back to the Five and Dime Jimmy Dean', 'The Flowing Peach', 'Romeo and Juliet', 'The Admiral Bashful' and 'The Shrewing of Blanco Posnet'. 'Molly', 'Andrew After Dark', 'Much Ado About Nothing', 'Faust', and 'The Colonization'.
Mr Berger was trained and graduated from the prestigious Yale School of Drama. Prior to that he trained at The Circle Square in New York City. After working for many years in New York as an actor, acting teacher, and private coach for stage and film, Gregory A. Berger opened The Berg Studios in Los Angeles, where he has taught approximately for the last ten years and has recently been invited to hold workshops in Stockholm, Sweden and Sydney, Australia.
Regional credits include work at the Yale Repertory Theater and The Yale School of Drama: 'A Midsomer Night's Dream', 'King Lear', 'King John','Measure for Measure', 'Three Sisters', and 'A Ride Across Lake Constance', to name a few. Among his directing credits are 'Dolores and Sisters' at the company of Angels and the west coast premiere of John Ford Noonan's POPPS. He was nominated best film actor at the Los Angeles SOYS Film Festival for the film 'Persona' directed by student Pac Arias, which was also nominated for best drama.
He has been a casting director for the pilot 'Angel Air' and has been commissioned by various managers, Marshak Zachary Management and Alan Ellsweig Management, to direct industry showcases. The showcases have received front coverage articles in 'Backstage West Magazine'.

This explains why the English and Australian actors seem to be dominating the American market not only in film but now on television (just look at the results of the academy awards this past few years). I do not believe the English are intrinsically more talented at all. They are simply better trained.

What's On Opportunity for feature writers
Just two short months ago Limelight International released a call for original pitches for a series of Tele Movies being produced for international sale, inspiring a wave of new thriller ideas from experienced and novice Australian writers alike. The response may have already been fantastic, but Limelight script coordinator Brigitte Allen says to keep the ideas coming.
"This is very much an ongoing process," she says. "Our buyers have people who are constantly reading concepts looking for the few that hit the target. So we can just keep sending them the best submissions. I encourage anyone who can write well for the screen to submit an idea, and anyone who has already submitted - to submit more ideas!"
The ideal opportunity for new, young Australian writers to gain some recognition and work experience, as well as for established writers to think outside the box, Limelight has some advice for anyone dreaming up a concept.
"Follow the brief. Everything we learn about our target market, we pass on to everyone who has shown interest - there are very few openings like this in Australian filmmaking," says Allen. "The guidelines are all there. Writers simply have to be clever, be original, and be true to the genre. If you use your imagination - and follow the basic thriller rules - then you have a good chance."
And there is already proof: Limelight International currently have three Australian writers drafting treatments for American Tele Movies.
"It's very exciting - both for us, and for them," says Allen. "And it's fantastic to be creating projects for the local industry. The fact that it's only been weeks, and already we have ideas being chosen by our overseas buyers to go into development, is an extremely positive result."
Dale Bradley, who heads up production for Limelight, also has some expert advice for writers wishing to submit.
"We don't mind if you're a student or a professional, as long as you carefully consider the international market for these films," says Bradley. "We want very specific American Thriller storylines. Our films sell to almost every country in the world and they need to be universally attractive and relevant."
"And please don't send full scripts," says Allen. "We're only asking for one-page concepts at first - just short, sharp, golden new ideas. One of the best things about this callout is that we have mentors and editors in place to help you through every stage of the writing process, should you gain interest."
Brigitte has prepared a full Writer's Brief that gives the details of the type of script required, the workflow, and all contractual information for successful pitches. At the moment there is no deadline for submissions, but she does say: 'the sooner the better!'
