Gold Coast Actors - Tom McSweeney has a
couple of places left on his Term 3 Classes.
Tom is casting 2 new series, both will be
shooting in Queensland over the next twelve
months. The first will begin production in Nov
2011and is a one hour adult drama series. The
second series is another 30 minute children's
series beginning April 2012.

"We also continue casting for the Steven
Spielberg series, "Terra Nova" through the end
of September of this year. So it looks like the
work is finally on the upswing for SE QLD and
our local actors need to be ready when
opportunities arise".

Yeah !!! for Queensland actors who constantly
get left without opportunity - to "lie on the
beach" (literally) !! lol

Actors should always be working on their craft
to be audition ready!

Sydney actors - Denise at Screenwise is now
auditioning for her showreel course. Details are
below in the Course listings. Denise has great
success with her actors and is a great contact in
the industry to know and work with.

New Feature Film in Production - Mental
Screen Aust ralia has announced production
investment in PJ Hogan's much anticipated
feature film Mental.

Mental stars Toni Collette and is written and
directed by PJ Hogan (My Best Friend's Wedding,
Confessions of a Shopaholic) in his first
Australian feature film since Muriel's Wedding.
The film is a comedy about the colourful
Moochmore family and their crazy, charismatic,
hot-tempered nanny.

Screen Australia's Chief Executive Ruth Harley
said, "I'm thrilled to announce Screen Australia's
involvement in Mental. PJ Hogan is a hugely
talented filmmaker whose studio-financed films
have grossed in excess of half a billion dollars
and attracted a consistent level of critical
acclaim. Add into the mix the delicious prospect
of PJ teaming up again with Toni Collette, one of
Australia's most gifted comic actresses, and we
look set to see a wildly entertaining film."

This project brings the total of Screen Australia's
production investment this year to over $23
million in 17 feature film projects, triggering
production worth over $95 million.

Synopsis When local politician Barry Moochmore

OPENING SHOT - AN 'OPENING SHOT' FOR EMERGING FILMMAKERS

An initiative of ABC TV Documentaries and
Screen Australia

Screen Australia and ABC TV Documentaries are
calling for proposals from emerging filmmakers
nationwide.

Opening Shot is a series of up to 6 x 29-minute
documentary films made by filmmakers 35
years and under to premiere at prime time as a
series on ABC2, a channel that aims to surprise,
enthuse and provoke. The films will engage a
broad audience, especially viewers aged 25-39.

We are looking for films with something to say.
The series will be a window into contemporary
Australian life that is insightful and entertaining.
The stories and treatments will be compelling
and promotable.

Apart from these broad parameters, the films
will reflect the personal talents and vision of
their makers. They will employ a range of
different storytelling devices. They will move
forward the careers of their authors.

The Commissioning Editor for the ABC will be
Head of Documentaries, Alan Erson. Screen
Australia will also appoint an Executive Producer
to the projects.

Funding
ABC TV and Screen Australia have committed a
total of $400,000 to this initiative.

Applicants can apply for up to $80,000 for each
half-hour documentary.

Opening Shot will fund one-off documentaries
for production and post-production.
Documentary series proposals cannot be
considered.

The ABC and Screen Australia contribution to
each documentary may be augmented by the
Producer Offset (if your project qualifies) and
funding from third parties like state film
agencies, distributors, film festivals etc.

If appropriate, the ABC and Screen Australia
may invest in the development of some projects
before deciding whether or not to commission
them.

Sydney Film Festival launches; NSW invests $4.2mil for 20 new projects

Minister for the Arts, George Souris, announced
20 new Australian films and TV programs
secured for NSW, at the opening night of the
Sydney Film Festival.

The Government will invest $4.2 million in these
20 projects which include new productions by
Academy Award winners Jane Campion and
Emile Sherman as well as Wayne Blair's The
Sapphires.

"The productions will generate hundreds of jobs
and see some of our top film and television
creators, cast and crew working in NSW," Mr
Souris said.

Seven feature films, two television series, two
children's animated series and eight
documentary programs help make up the 20
projects.

The Sydney Film Festival launched last night at
the State Theatre with the Joe Wright film
Hanna. Star of the film Cate Blanchett was in
attendence.
The Sydney Film Festival runs until 19 June.

Charlie: Son (11). Small, redhead, freckly.
Father (42) - Redhead, arrogant, charming, handsome, manipulative, exploits others to get his own revenge Charlie, ten-year-old son, just wants to be loved, but finds his narcissistic father and inaffectual mother too difficult to contend with and after trying to 'fit in' he eventually submits to his destiny, the son of his father. The film will be aimed at the national and worldwide festival circuit following completion in 2011. We are looking for 2 key roles (our ginger-haired father/son duo) to fill with capable, talented actors, and thought the actors at Quiet On Set might be interested. Graduates of the Screenwise Showreel Course
are proving that our showreel course is a step
above the rest.

Australian actors George Houvardas (Packed To
The Rafters), Tabrett Bethell (Legend of Seeker)
and Todd Lasance (Home & Away and
Cloudstreet) used their Screenwise Showreels
to help build their screen careers.

The course runs for a year with intakes in July
and January. One of the big differences with the
Screenwise Showreel Course is that all training
is done on camera. Students work for 12
months, building their screen acting techniques

Screen Acting - The Basics | Term 3 - Thursday
July 14th - Thursday September 16th 2011
This course is an introductory course in acting
for the camera. Areas covered - an
explanation of Industry terminology and on-set
etiquette, an investigation into various acting
techniques and styles and improvisation
techniques which help the actor to break down
barriers and connect with other performers.
Preliminary instruction in the use of the camera
as a tool for effective communication is also
introduced. Script analysis and breakdown
processes are explored and each actor is
encouraged to identify any inhibitions or blocks
they may have and allow their natural screen
quality to emerge.

Classes will be taught in rotation by Tom
McSweeney and other working industry
professionals
Class size: Twelve (12) person

Screen Acting - The Craft | Term 3 Monday July
11th - Wednesday September 15th 2011
This course is designed specifically for actors
who have acting experience and an
understanding of industry terminology and on-
set protocols. The aim of the class is to help
actors define character for the screen; aiding
them in finding nuance and colour in a scene
while adding their own "spice" to the role.

Particular emphasis is placed on finding the truth
in performance and pitching it at an appropriate
level for the camera. Clarifying choices and fine
tuning any mannerisms or habits that undermine
these choices is a primary focus.

Classes will be taught in rotation by Tom
McSweeney, and other working industry
professionals.

Class size: Twelve (12) person
