Info Update #23 Wednesday 22 July 2009
Latest News Featured Article Casting Board Film Competitions Select State

Hi Guys

Congratulations to those actors who we put forward and got screentests for Kododa.

We are currently doing submissions for Neighbours and Underbelly 3.

There are plenty of actors who have recently joined up for our mailing list or who have recently become members.
Please note: You must know how to e-pitch to be able to submit yourselves. Sending a good e-pitch is the difference between being submitted and getting an audition, or not being submitted at all.

I am getting emails saying:
"Hi, I want to audition for Neighbours, call me".
Or "Hi, my name is so and so, I want to audition for Underbelly".

The casting process doesn't work like that.
You must send me your headshot and cv for starters, and I need them in E-Pitch format.
If you don't know how to E-Pitch or you don't have a headshot, then that probably means that you are not yet ready to take on some of these roles in Underbelly and Neighbours that are calling for experience. The Neighbours role is a six week gig, so you need to be actor ready to sustain that.

These type of roles are different to the odd TVC, or being a featured extra for a day. There is no reason why you can't be on these main Aussie shows, but you need to have the training and experience.
I am seeing cv's come through with lots of training but no onset experience. How do you get it - by doing loads and loads of short films.

I am seeing lots of theatre experience on cv's but the actors have no training and no on camera work. Again, you need to have done more than a 6 week short course to qualify as being trained and you need to get as much on set experience on short films as possible.

I am going to show you Alex Rzechowizc's cv below. He is a young 16 yr old actor from Newcastle, who we put through for the Neighbours role. Have a look at his training and experience.
This is what you are up against.

No reason why you can't be there, - you just need to do the work.

Have a great weekend and check out the audition notices on the board. These are here to help you get that valuable experience you need.

DON'T MISS THE TAFTA COURSES STARTING NEXT WEEK.

TAFTA is running its Ultimate Screentests next week on the Gold Coast and in Melbourne. The info is below in the COURSES section of the newsletter, but there are only a few places left, so don't miss out on the opportunity to work with great teachers, who are also industry professionals who currently work in the industry and know what is going on - important to get the right info.

When I did the Screentest course last year, I was working with Palmer Marchese who is on Toasted TV, and Kendal Rae from The Shak. Who could forget young Harrison who nails it every time. Awesome actors to work with and awesome teachers.

Apparently the TAFTA National Actors Intensive which is awesome is sold out (again) in Melb but John Orscik says a couple of places left in Syd (dec) so don't miss out. All details below.

Have a great week.

Latest Quiet On Set News

Alex's CV example - His is an amazing young actor and has recen tly been to the states.
ALEX'S LATEST UPDATES
He just missed out on the Disney TV series "As the bell rings" ..... got down to the last two boys....they held them for 3 days and then gave it to the other one!!! ARGHH.

However, from that casting, he has an audition for another Disney TV series which is to be shot in LA....Alex already has his O1 visa to work in the states....so we are hoping they will love him.

He also recently got close on a USA Pilot. Casting loved him and were pushing to cast him as an Australian......but production deemed he was too tall and old to play a 13 -15 year old. Oh dear!!!! However, the casting agents followed up with Adam (his LA agent) and
wanted him to know they really really loved Alex and would like to meet him when we go back to LA next time.

Just proves, you may not get the job.....but doors open for you with a
good audition!!!!

Thanks again for looking after us.......he will get there one day....and he will make sure he includes you in his thank you speeches (at the Oscars) :-)

Much love
The Rzechowiczs

HIDDEN DARKNESS
You cannot hide from the truth about yourself.
Number of pages: 101

Bill and Sasha are hunters, Calligan, a priest turned infectee is there quarry. Bill has hunted him for years since he broke his word vowing never to prey on innocent victims. The hunt has become an obsession for Bill. He has grown tired and He is feeling the ravages of too many years hunting down what were once average people turned diseased predators. He wants nothing more then closure. To move on and redefine his life before he runs out of salvageable years but final victory comes with a price, the loss of his partner Sasha.

Calligan was dying of cancer. With three months to live he made a conscious choice to become infected with a virus that would cure his affliction but would leave him with a hunger for blood. He has since been forced to live with the consequences of this choice. No longer a man of god he has become a monster that preys on innocents to satisfy an unrelenting hunger. But the errant priest is on a mission to secure his redemption through a serum that would rid him of his accursed affliction. He may have extended his life but he has damned his soul. In the end he tries to seek absolution and forgiveness from someone he has betrayed, Bill. Bill delivers him to his maker to be judged.

Bill and Sasha have been partners for years. It is more then just older and younger cop with a common purpose of hunting prey. The almost symbiotic relationship forged by a dependence on the other to watch their back and keep them alive binds them on all levels. They are teacher and student, soul partners a team. Their relationship is one of love, but they are not lovers in the carnal sense, Sasha is gay. They truly love each other. When Sasha is abducted, it drives Bill to the edge. He'll do whatever it takes to get her back. It takes a fatal event for them to confess and prove the true extent of their love.

A crime syndicate lead by an Asian mob boss called Carlos is attempting to establish a distribution network for the, so called, cure called thirst. The drug is allegedly a cure for the disease that Calligan suffers. But research shows the drug simply alleviates the symptoms and the hunger for a short time. The real money can be made by selling it to non infected people as a cheap, but dangerous high. Leslie has been looking for sufficient evidence to shut down Carlos' operation for some time. But the investigation runs afoul when Carlos crosses paths with Bill and Sasha initiating a type of war. Leslie does not approve of Bill and Sashas" methods and is consequently left to pick up the pieces after the carnage is over.
