QuietOnSet Newsletter - Tuesday, March 16, 2010

Info Update 06/2010 16th March 2010
Latest News Featured Article Casting Board Film Competitions Select State

Hi Guys

This newsletter is going to arrive with a THUD in your in box as there is so much in. Heaps of great castings on the board.

There are some auditions listed for performers at Disney - Japan. When I was over there last year I met some of the Aussie and US performers - they were having a ball. Good money and conditions and the shows are really spectacular.
Great way to combine acting, travel and fun I say. Wish I had done it when I was younger.

There are some great courses on the board as well - I would recommend the Speaking American MasterClass with Professor - John Higgins. I know a lot of you missed out last time so make sure you call him asap. Contacts are in the newsletter under NSW courses below.

Have a great one.

Cheers
Lee

Face Facts Short Film Competition
The competition gives young Aussie adults the chance to cast the spotlight on drug dangers and win a cool $10k.

Supporting the Australian Government's 2010 National Drugs Campaign, the Face Facts Short Film Competition invites budding and first time film makers to get creative, and produce a 60 second short film highlighting the dangers associated with taking the drug ecstasy.
Launched by mcm media, this new national short film competition asks young Aussies to think about how they would warn their own mates about the risks of ecstasy.
Entries opened this morning at 10am, and close on April 30 when six final films will be chosen and uploaded onto the competition's microsite www.facefactsfilms.com.au.
Then it's over to Australia to decide on a winner who will walk away with $10k! Five runner-ups will also pocket $1k each. Plus, just by voting for their favourite short film, the general public will also be in with a chance of winning $5k!
For more information, and everything needed to enter the competition, readers can visit

Standard American Accent Master Class with Professor John Higgins
My last Master Class was so successful that I had to stop taking students when the numbers reached twelve. I have had enquiries from actors who didn't have time to do the class last November asking when I am doing the next class.

By the way, two of the class members in last November's class were Renee Caruso from Satisfaction and Wil Treval, the lead in Underbelly 3. Most of the younger students were very impressed and worked a lot harder to keep up with Renee and Wil. It turned out to be one of my most successful classes. One of the students got into the film, Sinbad and the Minotaur, and several of the cast members are currently auditioning for roles in a feature Australian movie called Frozen Moments, which requires Standard American accents for the entire cast.

So, I will be teaching another Master Class, starting March the 21st. The requests for another class mostly came from your subscribers.

So here are the details:

Standard American Accent Master Class with Professor John Higgins
Starts: Sunday 21 March 2010 (runs for 5 weeks, ending 18 April)
Time: 2pm - 5pm
Address: 612 Pennant Hills Rd, West Pennant Hills
(The only entry is via Eaton Rd, opposite 3 Eaton Rd)

Cost: $400
Ideal for actors of 18 years or over with an intermediate to advanced training or experience.

Gold Coast Indy Night - 24 Mar 2010
Gold Coast Indie Night Kicks Off in Samurai Style!

Local writer and director Marco Sinigaglia's new documentary Shintaro! The Samurai Sensation That Swept a Nation will screen as the feature event of the inaugural bi monthly Gold Coast Indie Night at 6.30pm Wednesday March 24 at The Basement at the Gold Coast Arts Centre.

Gold Coast Indie Night is presented by Caroline Russo Media and Public Relations and is proudly supported by Gold Coast Film Fantastic and the Gold Coast Arts Centre.

Gold Coast Indie Night is a bi monthly networking event for independent film makers and members of the Gold Coast entertainment industry designed to showcase film makers with works of less than 60 minutes and to facilitate information and to generate industry discussion on new initiatives and emerging platforms in the world of film and television.

"This is a wonderful way to create a supportive network for film makers and content creators on the Gold Coast. It complements the Queensland Showcase program of the Gold Coast Film Festival, which is a showcase of finished feature films made in Queensland looking for distribution, perfectly and provided a way to champion local film makers with shorter works that don't qualify for the Queensland Showcase". Casey Marshall Siemer, Festival Director, GCFF2010.

Caroline Russo is excited to bring this together with the GCFF2010. "This is a much needed networking event that provides a forum for like minded people to meet". Caroline Russo.

Local film makers with short films, television pilots or specials under 60 minutes who are interested in having their work featured at a Gold Coast Indie Night should contact Casey Marshall Siemer at admin@filmfantastic.com

Entry to the Gold Coast Indie Night at The Basement will be $10. For further information please see for more information on the GCFF2010 log onto www.filmfantastic.com

BURN - Film networking night - 23 Mar
Burn is a new evening to be held regularly at Horse Bazaar to stimulate new opportunities for your good self in the Australian Film and TV Industry.

Unlike other existing networking nights, Burn is all about the crew, the people who make it happen - anyone from a gaffer, to a director, to a video editor. We are all very important to the end product, so come out of your studio space, or wherever go to in between shoots and see what everyone else is doing.

The night is called Burn because, as you may already know, in a film context, burn marks (also known as cue marks) appear in the last few moments of a film coming to the end of its reel, as an indicator to change to the next reel.

With this visual in mind, we want to build momentum and keep that proverbial film reel turning (otherwise known as our careers in this weird and wonderful industry). Each Burn event will invite a new speaker - diversity of people is the key here.

This month, Jonathan auf der Heide (Director) and Maggie Miles (Producer) from Van Diemen's Land are popping down for a Q&A Session at 7pm.

There are other little treats organised, such as a "What's in your Truck?" segment. This is an opportunity for anyone who comes on the night to share a new gadget or toy that they have bought for work, something that you may want to talk about and hopefully entertain us with your nerd enthusiasm.

The first Burn night will be held from 6.30-8.30pm on Tuesday 23 March 2010 at Horse Bazaar (397 Little Lonsdale St Melbourne).

For more information about Burn nights and to express interest in getting involved, contact the organiser Maria Tsoukas (maria.tsoukas@gmail.com) or call 0411 894 607.
