INFO UPDATE # 7 5th March 2009
La test News Featured Article Casting Board Film Competitions Select State

Hi Guys

I have had some interesting enquiries this week.
The questions are often the same, people desperately want info, and I have included a couple of typical questions below.

Here are my top 2 Q & A's:

Hi Lee
I does your site help me work get work on Home & Away.......Actor, Melbourne.

ANSWER

Home & Away is filmed in Sydney so the chances of you (being an untrained actor doing extra work) working on Home & Away would be very slim simply because you live in Melbourne!

As an actor, you need to know what shows are being filmed in your state/nearest city and who the Casting Directors are.

2: Hi Lee
My son/daughter has an agent but never gets called for work, should I change agents?

ANSWER

The type of agent you get is relevant to the type of training. I see kids with acting CV's 3 pages long. Your child is up against these kids for any speaking roles. Directors and Producers will re use the same kids as they know they will behave on set and be able to follow directions. It is true what they say about working with animals and children. They are high risk.
Also life gets tough for kids who are 13-15yrs as they still come under the childrens award. This limits production schedules so producers would prefer to get a 16yr old to play a 13yr old, so as not to inhibit a full days filming.
If you are a small 16yr old, that is a bonus, if you are a mature looking 13yr old, not so good.

We have heaps more info though and you do need heaps more!

Working in the acting industry is about information. Good Talent Agents don't advertise in the yellow pages, and Casting Directors don't advertise audition notices in the weekly careers sections.

The info is there, you just need to know how to get it.

If you are new to the industry and just want info for starters - then I suggest you get one of our Starter Packs. They each contain over 40 pages of info that will answer all your immediate questions and help you get started.

And, you can get one today - they are only $14.95!

Just click on the links on the side or go to our BOOKSTORE to order then straight away.

How to Pitch a TV show - 19 Mar ASTRA Conference
Are you an emerging television show producer looking to perfect your pitch? Then the 2009 ASTRA conference can help you.

In a session sponsored by FOXTEL you'll see in full detail HOW TO PITCH A TELEVISION SHOW. Six television shows will be pitched to a judging panel including Brian Walsh Executive Director of Television and Marketing FOXTEL, Bruce Mann, Chief Executive XYZ Networks, Rebecca Batties, General Manager Music brands MTV and Louise Sams, President TBS International and Executive Vice President Turner Broadcasting System Inc. The winning pitch, which will be announced later in the day, will receive $25,000 in development money to refine their pitch and get it ready for market.

The six participants chosen for the session will be selected from one page submissions of their idea sent to howtopitch@foxtel.com.au . Each selected participant will have five minutes to present their idea to the judging panel before the audience of ASTRA delegates. The program can be for kids/family, reality, light entertainment or scripted (comedy/drama) and can include a video presentation.

Segment producer Jamie Campbell General Manager of Publicity and Talent says the idea for the session developed from FOXTEL's desire to support program makers and emerging producers who don't necessarily have the experience or access to decision makers day to day.

"At FOXTEL we are always looking for fresh new ideas and program concepts and we want to support emerging television makers to get their ideas presented and developed," Jamie Campbell said today.

ASTRA 2009 is the leading conference to draw together subscription television and related industries in Australia. The conference provides the opportunity to showcase the businesses, discuss critical issues and inspire and stimulate the industry for the year ahead.

Two Fists, One Heart + live Q&A - 9 Mar Popcorn Taxi
TWO FISTS ONE HEART is a contemporary family drama set in Perth, Western Australia.

Anthony Argo (Daniel Amalm) is a champion boxer and nightclub doorman who's trained by his father Joe; a proud man who has brought his Sicilian values with him to Australia. Joe's traditional view of the world increasingly comes into conflict with his son's pursuit of "la dolce vita".

Anthony meets Kate who stimulates him with ideas and love. She introduces him to a wider social group beyond the Australian society his father has known. Anthony starts to question many of the foundations of his upbringing, in particular, the role that violence plays in the resolution of conflict. As he assimilates his new found broader view of the world, while battling with his own personal disappointments, he realises he is now mature enough to be his own man and see his father and his values within the context of his own developing philosophy.

Oh... and there's a rival to Anthony's father's attentions, an ex-con street fighter who's starting to cause jealousy and rage within the family unit... perhaps fighting is the only true course Anthony can take.

Popcorn Taxi is proud to present
the first public screening of
Two Fists, One Heart
plus a live Q&A onstage with actor Daniel Amalm,
writer/actor Rai Fazio and producer David Elfick (Rabbit-Proof Fence, Newsfront) after the movie.
